Class Schedule: Online Winter Intensive 2021
Oklahoma International Dance Festival is pleased to announce the daily class schedule for their Online Winter Intensive to be held January 4-9, 2021. The 6-day intensive will be hosted via Zoom and is open to dancers ages 16 and up.
For dancers who register and place their deposit for the Full Intensive by December 4, 2020, they will be able to select the specific classes that they would like to take each day. With the addition of our 1 Class/Day and 2 Classes/Day packages, dancers who register for one of those options will be able to select their specific classes up to the registration deadline (December 27, 2020). For dancers taking the Full Intensive who do not place their deposit by December 4, the OIDF artistic team will place them in the classes that they feel are the best fit for them to grow technically and artistically.
In the image above, you can see that the Monday-Friday classes are separated into Room A and Room B. There is no level difference or other distinction from the two rooms, they simply refer to the breakout rooms that we utilize in Zoom to separate the different classes. Thus, you could be placed in Room A for Gaga/Dancers at 8:00am and the you might move into Room B for Modern/Contemporary at 9:00am.
8:00am - 9:00am: GAGA/Dancers or Gyrokinesis
From Monday-Friday of the intensive, dancers will start off with either Gaga/Dancers led by Alejandra Jara or Gyrokinesis® led by Leticia Plans. In Alejandra's Gaga/Dancers class, the focus will be on deepening awareness of physical sensations, exploring movement through physical research, working to modulate energy and engage their explosive power, and enriching movement quality with a wide range of textures. In Leticia's Gyrokinesis® class, dancers will coordinate movement, breath and mental focus to stimulate the nervous system, increase range of motion, and create functional strength through rhythmic, flowing movement sequences.
9:00am - 10:50am: Ballet or Modern/Contemporary + Repertory (Section 1)
Following an invigorating start to the morning with Gaga/Dancers or Gyrokinesis®, dancers will then transition to Ballet Technique or Modern/Contemporary Technique classes. While we have not yet solidified the teaching rotation for each specific class yet, the morning Ballet instructors for OIDF's Online Winter Intensive 2021 are Roser Muñoz and Vincent Gros, and the morning Modern/Contemporary instructors are Larry Keigwin and Raffaele Irace.
11:00am - 12:50pm: Ballet or Modern/Contemporary + Repertory (Section 2)
Ballet and Modern/Contemporary classes happen twice each day, one at 9:00am and one at 11:00am. Dancers who register and place their deposit by December 4 can choose if they would like to take one Ballet class and one Modern/Contemporary class, or focus on just one genre. Repertory classes are included with the technique classes preceding them and are led by the same instructors.
12:00pm - 1:00pm: Lunch
From the feedback we received from our incredible Online Summer Intensive in 2020, we realized that we needed just a little more time for breaks included in the day. So, we've held a full hour for lunch! Be sure to take this time to rest and prepare for an incredible afternoon of classes! During our lunch breaks, all dancers return from the breakout rooms to the main Zoom meeting room where we have the opportunity to socialize with fellow dancers and the OIDF team.
1:00pm - 3:20pm: Contemporary Pointe or Repertory
After lunch, we dive back in to technically and artistically fulfilling classes! During the week, Margo Sappington's Contemporary Pointe class and Sonia Dawkins' Repertory class follow our lunch break. Both Margo and Sonia led classes in our Online Summer Intensive and were so very loved by our dancers then, and we are thrilled that they are joining us for the Online Winter Intensive as well!
4:00pm - 6:00pm: Modern + Repertory or African Dance Technique
For the final classes on the weekdays, dancers will get to work with Colin Connor on Limón Dance Technique and repertory or with the latest addition to the OIDF Faculty, Sherone Price, who will be leading African Dance Technique class. These classes are sure to end your day on a high note and leave you inspired for the next day of classes!
On Saturday, January 9, we will all come together for four classes: a great way to wrap up the week as a community of dance artists. After Gyrokinesis®, we shift into Ballet and Modern technique, before finishing the intensive with African Dance Technique. Similar to our Online Summer Intensive, we'll conclude the Online Winter Intensive with a wrap-up session where the dancers and faculty will be able to share feedback, ask any last questions and grow together as a community before we each head out on our individual artistic journeys.
We hope that you will join us for OIDF's Online Winter Intensive 2021, from January 4-9, 2021. Tuition for the Full Intensive is just $300 and if you would like to just take 1 Class/Day or 2 Classes/Day, those classes are just $15 each.
