Before her transition from the stage to the classroom, Karen enjoyed a full career touring, performing, and gigging like all good theatre artists do.  She is a former Radio City Rockette with a history in corporate theatre and other big venue industries.  Karen is a multi-discipline movement artist with experience in ballet, modern dance, jazz styles, theatre dance and diverse styles of tap dance.  Together with her performance background, she holds a BPA in Dance Performance (Oklahoma City University), an MFA in Modern Dance (The University of Oklahoma), and is a fully qualified intimacy choreographer (T.I.E. trained). Karen’s creative interests are geared toward storytelling, communication, and collaboration which makes musical theatre an ideal place to work and create. Musical theatre choreography credits include Carrie, Curtains,  Nice Work If You Can Get It, Legally Blonde, Natasha, Pierre, and the Great Comet of 1812 (regional premiere), and Heathers, the Musical.  An aspiring director/choreographer, Karen recently directed and choreographed her first show, Bright Star.  Intimacy direction credits include Spring Awakening, Natasha, Pierre, and the Great Comet of 1812, Heathers, the Musical, Assassins, Bright Star, and Rent.  As a founding member of the Hartel Dance Group, Karen is honored to be among her dance family and the stellar faculty for this summer’s festival.
